Finances

Since I was keeping our pregnancy a secret for the first trimester, I haven’t been completely honest in all of my Purchase History columns. Once I found out that I was pregnant I began to search for reasonably priced maternity basics and some fun, fashionable items on sale. I picked up a few things in May, June and July that I wanted to share with you now.

By purchasing some basic tees and tanks (I’ve heard Target’s are the best for length, but Old Navy has a wider color selection), I am hoping to be able to incorporate many of my non-maternity cardigans and blazers this Fall. Maternity pants are next up on my shopping list. I did buy this fun pair of leopard jeggings at a great price, but I am now on the hunt to a find a great-fitting pair of maternity jeans, black leggings and a pair of oxblood or army green skinny pants. I also have a couple of occasions to find (or borrow) fun dresses for: my baby shower, Thanksgiving, Holiday parties, Christmas and New Year’s Eve (I will be so pregnant!). This TopShop dress I found, also on sale, would be great for a couple of those events, especially with a statement necklace and great pair of heels. I’m also hoping my good friend will let me borrow this leather-trim dress during the holiday season. Lastly, I’m keeping my eye out for versatile maternity tops. H&M and ASOS have been my favorite places to look, so far.

I also ordered a couple parenting books and a pregnancy workout DVD series. I’ve very much enjoyed Bringing Up Bébé and am looking forward to reading Minimalist ParentingI do have to say, although I bought and read Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy, I do not recommend it. While I love transparency and honestly, her language, tone and dramatic stories left me feeling… I don’t know how else to say it other than, gross. Overall, I am keeping my reading to a minimum (there’s just too much contradictory and down-right scary stuff out there). I am checking in weekly on my BabyBump app and paying attention to any literature provided by my doctor. Other than that, I am trying to focus more on preparing my heart for taking on the new role of caring for, raising and training up a child, instead of overanalyzing and worrying about my pregnancy.

All that being said, I am really anxious (in an excited way) to see how my body adjusts to make room for this growing baby. So far (at 17 weeks), I am still hardly showing. But once I have a little baby bump, I will be starting a new Maternity Style series, where I’ll style and share some of these items with you.
