Purchase History: February 2013

Can someone tell me how it’s already March? MARCH! I seriously feel like I blinked and we’re almost out of the first quarter. Self-employment does that to you, I guess. Well, February was a good and challenging month. Springtime is on the cusp here in Dallas and I am very much wanting to fill my closet with all the new Spring trends – pretty pastelsfloral prints, lasercut detailingmirrored patternsspring scallopsdistressed denim and overalls (okay, maybe not overalls). I am not going to lie, being a fashion blogger with expensive taste, a middle-class budget, and a very responsible husband is difficult #firstworldproblems. That’s what’s so great about this column. Every purchase decision I come across, I have to heavily weigh and consider. The accountability is such a gift, so I thank you for reading.

Needless to say, I did make some great purchases this month. I joked earlier on Twitter that February’s theme was yoga, Jesus and Sephora. I picked yoga back up and I am thrilled about it. As a reward and motivator, I decided to treat myself to a pair of Lululemon pants and two new yoga tops. Honestly, aside from yoga, I don’t work out, so what I own in this clothing department is very limited, old and short (honestly, 10 years ago were we all walking around with our midriffs showing?!) It feels great to have some pieces I am comfortable in and excited about wearing.

I’ve also been reading a lot more. My nightstand is overflowing! I’d list all the books here, but I think they deserve their own post. In February, I added The Meaning of Marriage and Love Does as a little Valentine’s Day gift to myself. I am hoping they will inspire me to in turn better love others in my life.

It was also a fun month for beauty. Not only was I introduced to an amazing new makeup brand, but I had a lot of fun experimenting with fragrance at Sephora. I ended up buying Guilty Gucci for Husband for Valentine’s Day and discovered some new favorite scents for myself (top one, two and three on the wish list). Sephora is also my go-to for beauty staples and I was able to pick up a couple of those on my trip.

Thanks to this post, I added some fun stud earrings to my collection. Forever21 is the best resource for cheap on-trend jewelry, no?

Lastly, I am working hard at finishing decorating my home office so that I can reveal it here on Modern Eve. I love this little art print by one of my favorite bloggers, Sarah from Note to Self. That and a handful of pillows were the perfect addition to my creative space.

There you have it! Several of you have mentioned that you’re either already doing or interested in doing this exercise for yourself. I would LOVE to see and read about your process. Please leave me a link in the comments!

Oh it can be dangerous to go to Lulu! Once you fall in love with it, you can’t even imagine working out in anything else, and the shopping spree follows shortly thereafter!

This is so inspiring! I started doing this for myself in October in an Excel spreadsheet, but I’ve finally decided to blog about it- http://www.thegallerina.com. Thank you for your openness!

Discovered this column via Meg Biram’s blog – I love the idea and this is incredibly brave! I’ve had to curb my spending since getting laid off in January, so I gave up shopping for Lent (meaning no clothes/accessories/makeup, everything else is ok), and thankfully it hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it might be! Maybe after Lent is over I’ll try something like this…if I can conjure up the courage!

I think this is a great series, genius, because there’s so much to learn from our own habits! Is like when people start writing down everything they eat, in order to eat healthier, you know? ;)

Lululemon pants are seriously the best. They are flattering on any shape and totally worth the money!
