Color Craving: Emerald

Last night, Pantone announced their Color of the Year for 2013 – Emerald. Honestly, in the design community, there’s been some disappointment. Compared to last year’s Tangerine Tango and 2011’s Honeysuckle, a simple almost-primary color seems a bit boring. But seeing as that green is my all-time favorite color, I am looking forward to the resurgence of emerald hues.

This rich, darker green is the perfect color for both fashion and home; and I can’t wait to see how retailers and designers incorporate it into their collections. In fact, we ‘ve already been seeing it a lot from the trends of malachite, green snake print and Tibi’s lovely green lurex from Fall/Winter 2012.

Another good thing about green is that it’s difficult to get tired of. Anyone else over Tangerine Tango? The lasting power of emerald makes it a welcoming choice, in my opinion. My favorite ways to incorporate the emerald green trend? I’ll be adding some kelly green / emerald curtains to my dining room and I’ll be shopping for a green leather handbag. I love this Kate Spade option, now on sale for $189.

What do y’all think about Pantone’s announcement? If you want to rebel (or need something softer), Sherwin-Williams selected Aloe and Benjamin Moore chose Lemon Sorbet as their 2013 Color of Year.
