This fall one of my favorite trends is mixed prints, especially of the classic menswear variety. Plaid, checks, houndstooth, stripes – I can’t get enough of these classic patterns! This week I am back sharing this look from one of my favorite retailers, T.J.Maxx.
Sticking with a classic black and white color palette (which also happens to be a great fall trend), I pulled together a basic striped tee, a houndstooth wrap and some amazing designer plaid flats. To add some additional interest, I snuck in a fabulous red bag, lips and nails. When mixing prints it’s easy to get carried away, but I love how these three different patterns work seamlessly together.
Whenever you’re print-mixing, I suggest a maximum of three patterns. Any more starts to look busy and less intentional. Using colors from the same family is definitely the safe way to go, but if you’re feeling brave you can certainly play with coordinating colors. This trend is actually carrying over from last year. However, in 2012 we were seeing two different prints – a polka-dot and stripe, a floral and a plaid. This year, it’s more print-on-print. Two florals or two menswear prints are a great way to show your on-trend style.

Hello, baby bump! I am 26 weeks here and definitely starting to feel pregnant!
This wrap, found at my local T.J.Maxx, is going to be so perfect this season. I can throw it over basic tanks and tees for an instantly upgraded and trendy look! And since I’m pregnant, I don’t have to worry about it fitting over my growing bump!
A red lip is always a good idea, especially when you’re wearing classic black and white.
T.J.Maxx also had a great selection of beauty supplies and products. I found some of my favorite nail polish line this past week and had to pick up this great red color. Red nails are so fun! I just suggest keeping them on the shorter side.
These plaid flats are maybe my favorite T.J.Maxx purchase as of recently. They’re from one of my favorite contemporary designers and are so perfect for this season! I love the tweeded plaid and a black and white color scheme seems to go with everything!
So, are you as into print mixing as I am? Make sure you check out your local T.J.Maxx for some great designer finds!
