It’s no surprise to see leather popping up everywhere this time of year. Leather jackets and boots have forever been synonymous with fall fashion. But what I’m really loving this season, is leather in unexpected places. Last year, we started to see this luxurious fabric crafted into designer leggings, shift dresses and even shorts. This year, it’s back again, but now also in smaller portions. Leather trimmed collars, elbow pads, pockets and sleeves mixed with cotton knits are my favorite fashion trend right now. There’s something so beautiful found in the oxymoron of such a rich material mating with a simple tee. I literally want to fill my closet with a new leather-trimmed tee or sweater for every day of the week. Throw it on with jeans and boots and…bam! super chic!
And while genuine leather is expensive, there are plenty of affordable vegan leather, leather-like, or polyurethane “PU” leather options available at some of my favorite retailers. This round-up includes tops from jcp ($20), Zara ($30), The Limited (on sale for $17) and Dorothy Perkins ($17). Seriously, what great prices! Unfortunately I am still hung up on this striped version from Club Monaco, which is slightly more expensive. That always happens.
What do you think about the leather trim trend? Have you been seeing it around? Anywhere else I should look…I am not kidding about making this my winter uniform.
