Hello, August. I can’t believe you’re already here. I may be watching the Olympics today but in a few short weeks my Saturdays, Sundays and Monday Nights will be filled with football. Until then, I am trying to let summer linger a little longer by enjoying the taste of juicy watermelon, the ease of throwing on a pair of shorts and the feel of tightened skin after being out in the sun a little too long. August, in its own right, has plenty to celebrate. My sister-in-law and one of my best friends are scheduled to delivery babies one week apart. Rue Magazine is coming to Dallas, kicking off their Texas Issue with a party at Wisteria next Wednesday night. Oh yes, and August is my official birthday month. Let the celebrations, gift-giving and regret-free cake-eating begin!
// Cupcakes and Cashmere by Emily Schuman
I’ve loved her blog from the beginning and I am thrilled to see Emily’s continued success as she publishes her first book. So much so, I even pre-ordered it on Amazon. Emily’s simple and unapologetic sense of style, delicious recipes and fun party-planning tips make this book a great gift for you or someone else.
// Dainty Rings
Ever since my sweet husband gave me one of Jennifer Meyer’s ultra thin rings as a 5-year wedding anniversary present, I’ve been dying to add to my collection. Forget arm parties. I’m looking for a super sweet, stackable collection of dainty rings. With emerald, sapphire, ruby, diamond and turquoise stones, I have a lot of options. And perhaps I’ll add a gold “K” or a sweet heart from Catbird.
// Chanel Fall 2012 Nail Colour
We all know that Chanel sets the trends for nail colour. Their signature Fall colours are always some of my favorites and this year is no exception. Put these three into your polish rotation. Frenzy, the perfect neutral taupe. Vertigo, a complex, vampy almost-black shade. And Suspicious, a red raspberry shade. Nude, black and red. What more could you need?
// Pre-Fall Polka-Dots by Loeffler Randall
I’ve only jumped on the polka-dot fan train recently and I think I have Loeffler Randall to thank for it. After checking out her pre-Fall collection, suddenly polka-dots become sophisticated. I seriously think I’d live in the Natalie Cap-toe Flat, but the Tasmin Classic Pump is perfect for work. Blush dot printed calfhair — who knew you could be so lovely?
// Married to the Sea by Clare Elsaesser
I’m well on my way to hanging a respectable gallery wall in my home office. Over the past few months, I’ve been collecting affordable art from Etsy and other online retailers. Clare’s work caught my attention right away. Perhaps my favorite part is that it even comes with its very own poem:
I spend my summers in a tree,
I roam the world while sipping tea,
and lots of things are built by me
from house to ship and this decree
I’ll spell it out so you can see,
I cannot marry because I’m free
and one more reason this may be
is I am married to the sea.
// New camera bags from Lo & Sons
A couple of weeks ago I rounded up some of my favorite DSLR camera bags. Little did I know that Lo & Sons, a brand of fabulous travel bags made by a mother and her sons, is releasing two camera bag styles this Fall! If I had, they surely would have made the cut. In fact, The Melrose, a mini backpack style, has quickly jumped to the top of my DSLR camera bag list.
// Driftwood Accents
I’m scheming a master plan to get some beautiful driftwood into my home. Whether it’s this statement accent table from Crate & Barrel, one of Royal & Oak’s amazing lamps or these fun neon-painted sticks, hear me now when I say, driftwood is coming soon to a house near me. Mine, to be exact. I need to bring a little natural, ocean-inspired decor into my landlocked Dallas residence.
// Modern House Numbers
I often get discouraged when I’m wanting to update my home. Things are just so expensive, these days. Is it my taste? The economy? A combination of both, perhaps. If you’re wanting a quick, reasonably priced update to modernize your home, I highly recommend you consider updating your house numbers. Like an invitation to a party, they have the ability to set the tone for your home to your guests. There are plenty of modern options even at places like Home Depot and Lowes, but I’m a little partial to these ceramic tiles from Heath Ceramics. There’s that expensive taste again.
What are you thinking about and loving this August? And can you believe it’s already the eight month of the year!
