Remodel Diaries: Master Bedroom

Many of you know that my husband owns a remodeling business here in Dallas. You might think that our home would be prime material for Elle Decor, House Beautiful or at least Rue Magazine. But we’re typical cobbler’s children over here. No shoes. We did a little remodeling when we first moved in four and half years ago and since then it’s been pretty silent.

Our 1950’s ranch style home has served us well, but there’s a couple of things that would make our home life a little more comfortable. Our current master bedroom is on the smaller side and the master bathroom is quite tiny. So tiny that I’ve had to take up residence in the hall bathroom. The same goes for our closets. Husband uses the master bedroom closet, while my clothes are spread between two hall closets and our guest bedroom.

Husband and I are finally getting serious about converting our home’s original attached garage (currently being used as Husband’s office / ginormous laundry room) to our master bedroom suite. Just the fact that I am writing this make it seem more real. Giddy would be a good adjective to describe me right now. We’re still in the planning stages, making final tweaks on the floor plan and choosing our selections. My expensive taste is definitely getting in the way, but we’re moving in the right direction! Here’s our current plan…

In order to maximize the space, we will have to relocate our washer and dryer into our butler pantry. We’re also planning to add a half bath, which will come in handy once we have children that take over our current hall bathroom.

Husband and I’s favorite part of the project is our master bathroom. We’re building a Japanese style soaking tub inside a large shower space. Were also including a lot of counter space with dual sinks. Even though we don’t share bathrooms currently, Husband has seen my make-up and hair mess — I’ll need my space. We’ll also have a separate toilet room with a sliding door (a must for married couples).

The master closet still needs to be designed. I’m going to need to get creative to make storage for all of my clothes, shoes and accessories. Oh yeah, and Husband’s too.

I’ll be sharing my inspiration, my selections and keeping up with our progress here on the blog. In the meantime, you can get a sneak peek on Pinterest. Click here to see my master bathroom inspiration and here for some of my favorite closets.
