Interior Trends: Statement Curtains

// Statement Curtains by Modern Eve

I have a secret, one I am not proud of… I have lived in my house for almost 6 years without any (not a single) curtain, drape or window valance. That’s right, my house is naked. I know that window treatments, along with rugs (which I also have very few of), make a huge difference in a home. They anchor a room and bring harmony to your design. The truth is, I have trouble committing. And on top of that, my budget has been a roadblock.

Window treatments don’t have to be expensive. In fact, one of my favorite designers, Emily Henderson wrote this great post here about the secrets to inexpensive, but good drapery. But, when it comes to curtains, I am looking for something to make a statement. I want full panels that drape from the ceiling to the floor, fun patterns and unique designs.

I am finally starting to prioritize drapery in my home, starting with my office and then dining room. I secured a great resource here in Dallas to have my drapes custom-made, but now I’m on the hunt for some well-priced fabric in a statement-making print. The images above a providing some great inspiration. But I’d like to know: A) Do you prefer simple, neutral drapes; or statement curtains? and B) Where do you buy your window treatments?

Definitely! A great way to add color to your walls, if you don’t want to paint.

I know, right? I would have never thought to use all the blue gingham, but it totally works!

Me too, Grace. They make such a statement without being too in-your-face.

I’m with you! I have only bought two different sets of curtains – one is bold from Target and the other neutral from Pottery Barn. I like number 5 and 6!

Condo shopping! How fun! Definitely don’t wait 6 years to get curtains, like me. Ha!

I love all of these patterned drapes! I think what keeps me from going that route is that they’re just so darn expensive! I have 94″ windows and it would take a small fortune to outfit a whole room then to get sick of the pattern, but these photos do sure have me swaying.

Yes 94″ windows would be expensive! That’s exactly why I have been trigger shy. But, it’s been too long. I need to commit. Let me know what you decide. :)

Our house is a mix of statement and neutral curtains. We have mostly curtains from Ikea– you can’t beat the price, and they are long enough to hang floor to ceiling. My favorite curtains our from West Elm, but my best friend has some awesome statement curtains she got on sale at Anthropologie that totally make the place! You won’t believe how different your home will feel once you finally hang curtains– it makes a huge difference.

I can’t wait! I know they’re going to change everything. I need to look at Anthro. I love their textiles! Thanks for the reminder.

If you are really on a budget, I recommend sheets- bed linens! Lots of great pattern and color, no commitment. Just put the curtain rod through the hems and hang. You can make fun tie-backs from trimming remnants too.

I wish I could get rid of my horrible blinds, but window treatments are so expensive! Unless I tackle some sort of DIY ;)

I really love them! Number 4 is my favorite…I have a serious thing for bold florals right now.
